John Hurt - RIP
A great actor and deserving of his own thread. RIP ... the impresario I sat behind in my only pop video !

Re: John Hurt - RIP
Didn't get chance to post the other day when the news was announced.

This hit me hard. My favourite British actor of all time.

Saw him outside a cinema in London a few years ago and really wanted to say hello and how much of a fan I was. But chose to respect his privacy instead. In a selfish way, I've regretted it ever since. And even more now.

The guy was a fucking master. You'll struggle to find anyone with as rich and diverse filmography as (just off top of my head) The Elephant Man, Alien, Naked Civil Servant, 10 Rillington Place, The Hit, Midnight Express, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Scandal, 1984, V for Vendetta, Watership Down, Hellboy, Shooting Dogs, Dogville, and lastly Jackie.

Alot of the films amongst these I sought out just because he was in them.

Another legend gone.

I also forgot his excellent narration on the CD (and concert) of The Hunting of the Snark - worth checking out.

Ps. The pop video where he played the impressario was 'Take it Away"

His movie: The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson

Wilko talks about dying (they were making a movie about the Feelgoods at the time of his diagnosis). He refuses treatment as being tough to deal with while crippling the body. Isntead he doesnt die. He gets back to England and his doctor wants to know why he's not dead.
As far as I can understand it, his cancer was growing on, not in, his pancreas. They could therefore cut it out, along with most of his stomach.
Some on here have said he faked the entire thing, but that lack of a stomach is difficult to fake.

Great actor,he brought absolute quality to every role he played. Watched Rob Roy the other night and the bird and me were marvelling at his performance.

Good to see you posting again mate.

Hurt was one of our greatest actors. Didn't he also run/part own a pub in the east end? I'm sure I drank in it once or thrice?
